http://ell.stanford.edu/content/our-work

Stanford University: Understanding Language aims to heighten educator awareness of the critical role that language plays in the new Common Core State Standards and Next Generation Science Standards. The long-term goal of the initiative is to increase recognition that learning the language of each academic discipline is essential to learning content. Obtaining, evaluating, and communicating information; articulating and building on ideas; constructing explanations; engaging in argument from evidence—such language-rich performance expectations permeate the new Standards.

Mentor Institutes

The CTPP university partners facilitated mentor institutes for mentor teachers at our twenty partner schools in July 2011. National Louis and Loyola continue to facilitate bi-quarterly institutes for ongoing support to the mentor teachers at their partner schools. Northeastern Illinois University and University of Illinois at Chicago are planning an on-line course for mentor teachers.

Center X- Adaptive Schools Training

National Louis hosted a two-day seminar for their faculty and partner schools based on Adaptive Skills to facilitate collaborative relationships both between and among partner schools and universities. Center X, from UCLA, facilitated the Seminar.

Faculty Professional Development

University of Illinois at Chicago hosted a professional development session for the college of education faculty around innovative methods in teacher education baccalaureate programs implemented at University of Washington.  The session focused on clinical frameworks for better preparing teacher candidates during their pre-service teacher education.

Whole School Professional Development

Loyola University has facilitated whole-school professional development at one of their partner schools.  These professional development sessions supported teachers in unpacking and aligning the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) with their current instructional practices, and helped them organize for CCSS school wide implementation.

CTPP Fall Summit

The Chicago Teacher Partnership Program holds biannual summits to share the progress of work within the grant with local stakeholders and grant contributors as well as provide support services to its twenty partner schools and university faculty.  This fall’s summit was focused on supporting teachers, administrators, Chicago-area deans, and university faculty during an all day seminar around the Common Core State Standards and their implications for teacher preparation programs and school curriculum and instruction. Special guest speakers included Timothy Shanahan, Professor of Urban Education, Director of the Center for Literacy, and the chair for the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Illinois at Chicago and Mary Jo Tavormina, Project Director for West Cook Mathematics Initiative and South Cook Mathematics Initiative.
